Applications open for Milparanga, developing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership

10 April 2018

Applications are currently open for Milparanga, a leadership development program formerly known as the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leaders Program (NATSILP).

The program develops and prepares Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to engage in powerful and different conversations.

Milparanga is for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who are 21 years or older. It is an 11-day two session program, with the first session taking place in a regional location and the second session taking place in Canberra.

Individuals can apply for a scholarship funded by the Australian Government (limited number available).

There is also an option for individuals to ask an organisation to sponsor them or pay for their own placement on the program.

Applications close 26 April 2018.

Feedback from participants of last year’s program:

“What I got out of the program was a solid network of likeminded people and it’s definitely a tool that needs to be used within the rural and remote communities,” Cory Paulson, graduate 2017.

“It provides a space where likeminded people can come together to make change in their community. I connected with everybody on the course, I learnt more about myself and I came away with a new family,” Laura Kingi, graduate 2017.

“The program really challenged me to look at myself and to not particularly look so much at others…it’s about how I can empower myself to empower other people,” Krystal Hurst, graduate 2017.
