Milparanga 8.3 graduates in Canberra

13 July 2021

β€œThe Milparanga program was an inspiring experience. It has equipped me with the tools and knowledge required to enhance my leadership skillset and established a network of like-minded Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are committed to supporting each other throughout our leadership journeys.”

Oliver Tester from Canberra is one of 16 participants who graduated from the Milparanga 8 Leadership program on 24 June after completing their final 5-day session in Canberra.

Participants came together from across two cohorts with a Welcome to Country at Reconciliation place by local Ngunnawal and Ngambri Traditional owner Paul House.

A highlight was the two-day outdoor experiential component in Tharwa, NSW where challenge-based activities aimed to build communication skills and trust in one another. Speeches about the contributions of Indigenous people to rural, regional and remote Australia, personal and group reflections after challenge activities, personal goal setting and leadership pledges all delivered valuable learnings for the group.

Special guests at the graduation event included Doctor Matilda House, Paul House, Minister for Indigenous Australians the Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP and ARLF alumni Joshua Kelly, Anna Carr and Ian Thompson.

Applications for Milparanga 9 open soon.
