Women leaders from the Torres Strait visit state and national leaders

24 October 2017

Last week, the second session of the Torres Strait Women’s Leadership Program was held in Brisbane and Canberra.

Ten women leaders from the Torres Strait met with politicians and other community leaders to learn about influence and advocacy, and the importance of remaining true to self.

The women were exposed to governance and politics, inspiring leaders who shared their wisdom and shared a meal with the Australian Rural Leadership Program Course 23 participants.

The highlights from the week included:

  • meeting with the Hon Shannon Fentiman MP, Minister for Communities, Women and Youth, QLD and the Hon Leeanne Enoch MP, Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy, QLD and graduate of Course 15
  • meeting with Cathy McGowan AO, MP, Member for Indi, VIC and graduate of Course 3
  • meeting with Senator Patrick Dodson, WA
  • visiting the Tent Embassy and the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies.

The program is a collaborative project between the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) and the Foundation.

The final session and graduation ceremony will take place in the Torres Strait in November 2017.
