Eastern Indonesia suffers the highest levels of poverty and malnutrition along with the lowest levels of education in the nation. It is also home to one of the largest National Park Reserves, Manusela. ARLP Course 25 participant, Yola Bakker, through LANAH is working to change things.
Project Ceram is an example of “people solutions to place problems”. It’s essentially a three pronged approach: Environment, Education and Exchange, driving sustainable impact in the Moluccan province of Indonesia.
LANAH and Perth based not-for-profit organisation Alifuru Nusaina have partnered with global freight company Online Logistics Solutions and Dutch foundation Happy Green World to redirect waste, address community needs and educate primary school children for a greener future. Yola is also working closely with Cairns land and sea management experts Coraculture Environmental in early concept planning stages for a Community Agroforestry Area specifically designed for the remote island and the capacity of its people.
“With the expertise I have around the table and my local links on the ground we are really now looking to secure investment capital, sponsorship and donations.” says Yola Bakker, Founder, LANAH.
Following the ARLFs’ five-year relationship with Indonesia, 2019 was the last year that the ARLP will visit Indonesia. Project CERAM offers a fabulous opportunity to contribute to developing a sustainable environment with the local community.
