I’m passionate about my work with the ARLF and want to help the organisation become a powerhouse of professionals who know how to manage complex programs and deliver results to the customer.
Outside of work, you’ll find me planting trees, looking at trees, hiking, Outrigger paddling, permaculture gardening, swimming, doing yoga, and investing in property.
Where does your passion for rural, regional and remote Australia come from?
My love for rural Australia has solidified a few years ago. I volunteered for Bush Heritage at Boolcoomatta in South Australia. It’s a vast red dirt and saltbush expanse with amazing birdlife and animals. Standing on Dome rock watching the sunset was mesmerising and deeply affecting to think there was no human or machine for kilometres.
What’s your favourite memory or most memorable moment in rural, regional and remote Australia?
My favourite memory of rural Australia comes from Christmas Day when it’s intensely hot and still. Nothing is moving, no breeze. The smell of Eucalypts is overpowering, and I’m climbing up the walls of Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges. Wilpena is an eight-kilometre-wide crown of furiously serrated mountains, with a sunken natural amphitheatre in its centre. There were only two of us in this breathtaking but also deeply spiritual and haunting space.
What’s your professional background?
Before joining the ARLF, I was mainly an Australian Volunteer working on environmental development projects in Palau, North Pacific Tonga, Myanmar, Bali and other exotic locations. I retrained from my original career of management, change and IT consulting. Eventually, you just tire of cubicles!
Three things you love about working at the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation?
Three things I love about working for the ARLF are the quirky, friendly, committed people, being able to work from literally anywhere, and interacting with regional and rural people and organisations.
