Changemaker Workshop

Change is inevitable—but how we respond to it defines our impact.

A Changemaker Workshop supports people in rural, regional, and remote Australia in navigating change—whether driven by external forces or the desire to create something new. Designed as a practical, strengths-based experience, these two-day workshops help individuals see themselves as vital contributors to their local change ecosystem.

Delivered more than 75 times to over 1,200 people in 36 regions for exceptional partners

One workshop, designed for people and organisations navigating change - whether at a community, industry or government level

Unlike traditional leadership programs, the Changemaker Workshop is not about formal leadership training or organisational change management. Instead, it focuses on equipping time-poor individuals with the confidence, networks, and mindset to embrace and influence change at the grassroots level.

Empowering groups of up to 30 with the tools, mindsets and networks to navigate change

Empowering everyday changemakers

Anyone can be a changemaker. This workshop helps people recognise their unique contribution to their community, industry or workplace.

Understanding change

Uncertainty and complexity often drive fear and resistance. The workshop helps participants understand how change happens, how to interpret it, and how to adapt rather than resist.

Exploring local challenges and opportunities

Whether in a workplace, community, or broader ecosystem, activities guide groups in identifying pathways for meaningful change—even when perspectives differ.

Reframing and gaining perspective

Adaptation requires broadening perspectives. Participants learn to value diverse viewpoints as essential to finding creative solutions.

Finding shared purpose

In times of change, a common goal is key to progress. The workshop helps groups discover shared purpose to move forward collectively.

Making sense of complexity

Change often feels overwhelming. Participants break down adaptive challenges into manageable steps—e.g., identifying one immediate action and seven people to involve.

Practical, not prescriptive

Rather than prescribing solutions, the Changemaker Workshop support groups in developing small, innovative probes – practical steps toward change that suit their unique contexts.

Scalable and responsive

With more than 75 workshops already delivered, the impact is growing across communities, helping people take ownership of change in their own way.

The outcomes of a Changemaker Workshop are shaped by the unique mix of participants and their specific context.

The workshop has an impact at both the individual and collective levels, influencing how participants engage with change. This impact can extend beyond the group, creating direct or indirect ripple effects within the broader ecosystem.

Ongoing conversations

Change is hard. For some groups, the first step is committing to regular discussions or forming new networks to explore change together.

Seeing possibility

Uncertainty and complexity often drive fear and resistance. The workshop helps participants understand how change happens, how to interpret it, and how to adapt rather than resist.

Taking the lead

Some groups walk away ready to act, whether that means implementing change, stepping up to lead, or navigating an existing shift with more confidence.

Changing ways

For others, the workshop deepens their understanding of how change affects different people. They leave with stronger skills in recognising behaviour patterns and supporting others through change.

Connection and support

Regardless of their next steps, all participants gain a network of peers who share the experience, providing ongoing support, collaboration, and encouragement.

Outcomes are evaluated via a survey after the workshop.

A strength-based experience

A strengths-based experience is an approach that focuses on identifying, amplifying, and leveraging existing strengths, rather than starting from a place of deficit or problems. Instead of asking, “What’s wrong?” or “What needs fixing?”, a strengths-based approach asks: What are we already doing well? What resources, skills, and relationships do we already have that we can build on? How can we use our existing strengths to navigate challenges and create opportunities?

In the context of the Changemaker Workshop, a strengths-based experience means:

Empowering participants

Participants walk away feeling capable, recognising their ability to influence change rather than feeling overwhelmed by challenges.

Focusing on possibilities, not limitations

Instead of getting stuck on barriers, participants explore what’s possible using their existing assets and networks.

Encouraging collaboration

By drawing on diverse perspectives and strengths, groups find new ways forward together.

Building confidence and agency

Participants leave with a sense of ownership and motivation to take action, knowing they don’t have to start from scratch.

Ultimately, a strengths-based experience creates momentum—helping people see change as achievable, rather than something to be feared or resisted.

Frequently asked questions

Have a question that we haven’t answered below? Get in touch with our friendly team. We’re happy to help.

Generally, we would expect that you bring participants. If you would like to have ARLF recruit participants, in a particular geographic region for example. Please contact us to discuss a custom option.

Due to logistical set up and running costs, we are unable to refund for participants’ non-attendance.

Under certain circumstances, we may be able to run a workshop with a larger group. This usually requires an additional facilitator. It is important to note that we don’t necessarily recommend this as learning outcomes in a group above 30 people can be diminished. Running two workshops may be a better option.

Not entirely. While the core concepts of the Changemaker Workshop are the same, our facilitator will work with you to understand your group’s context, any specific challenges that may come up to keep the workshop relevant and topical.

Anyone aged 18 years and over can participate.

Yes, this workshop is suitable and cater for people of diverse abilities. Participants will be required to be in a sedentary environment, sitting for a number of hours at a time. The physical components of the workshop are very mild and adaptable and include standing/ sitting in circles and some limited movement.

After an initial discovery call to discuss your options, you will enter into a service delivery agreement with ARLF. Depending on the circumstances, our team will need approximately 6 months of time to complete the logistics and design process before delivering the workshop. This includes selecting the facilitator, customising the workshop to your context and registering participants.
