I love that my role supports an increased connection between our amazing 2000+ alumni, as well as a connection back to the ARLF. I know we have an army of fabulous alumni – all of whom have completed some form of leadership training from right across the country. I love that my role aims to harness that energy, skill and passion for the betterment of us all.
When I get time away from work, I love to read. But in this busy stage of my life, I’ve discovered the joy of audiobooks and podcasts which shine some light into the less exciting parts of life ie domestic duties! I also just love to hang out with my little family, my extended family and that group of beautiful humans who are my chosen family. And I love to take photos – lots and lots of photos!
Where does your passion for rural, regional and remote Australia come from?
As a parent of three kidlets, I just love the balanced lifestyle I can enjoy from living in regional Australia. Juggling work and busy schedules, I love that I can live on 30 acres and yet, I am only 15 minutes away from a large regional centre where there are great job opportunities, a wide range of educational and sporting options as well as a strong arts and music scene. I love that I can have it all – and yet I don’t have to battle it out daily with millions of others in a super big city.
What’s your professional background?
I have spent most of my working life working in the non-profit sector in marketing and communications roles – from Outward Bound Australia, Conservation Volunteers and now to the ARLF to name just a few. I also spent 3 years travelling the world and working on a cruise ship based out of the UK which helped foster and develop my love of photography. I also run a small family photographic business which is my creative art outlet!
What’s your favourite memory or most memorable moment in rural, regional and remote Australia?
When I was in my twenties, I did a figure eight loop around Australia – both travelling and working a bit along the way to earn more funds to keep going. When I think back on that trip, I can still recall the joy of feeling completely free to simply explore the diverse and endless beauty of this country. What a gift that was! From coastlines to red deserts, from tropical rainforests to numerous mountain climbs for the view. Although I love a vibrant, busy city, I love that sense of space you get from being out in regional and remote Australia even more. It fills my cup!
What are three things you love about working at the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation?
- The people – both staff and alumni.
- That we are a nationally focussed organisation – I love that we work across the whole country and not just part of it.
- That our work aims to make a positive difference.
