Nelum (Nel) De Silva

As the Director of Finance at ARLF, I produce budgets, financial reports and provide financial performance analytics for the programs we deliver by the foundation. Additionally, I strategise identifying the ARLF needs to achieve its short- and long-term deliverables and goals. Controlling and ensuring every sector of the foundation is operating within budget and in alignment with strategy is another one of my roles. Behind the scenes, I am also responsible for the financial function of the foundation servicing internal and external stakeholders.

Seeing the impact made to communities of regional Australia by educating the members of those communities has been an eye-opener for entering into the NFP sector. I was overwhelmed by the direct impact provided by organisations such as ARLF aligns with my personal and professional passions.

Growing up in Darwin, my fondest memories of our weekend getaways were hiking in Nitmuk (Katherine) Gorge, exploring Cutta Cutta caves and having a dip in the Mataranka hot springs.

Being a mother to two young boys has topped my priorities outside of work. I do however find gardening and cooking to be very therapeutic. Travelling and seeing the country and the world as a family is our family time well spent.

Prior to starting with the foundation I have been a financial controller for over 10 years. The last 5 years were at another NFP where I began to develop a passion for regional Australia. Prior to that, I have been in the hospitality industry working in Finance across many international hotel organisations.

The three things I love about the ARLF is the people, the programs and the social impact.
