Priyansha Ram

As the Finance & Business Specialist at the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF), I support the organization’s visions by ensuring the financial integrity and sustainability of our programs. Through accurate reporting, budgeting, and financial insights, I empower program leaders and stakeholders to make informed decisions that directly support the growth and resilience of rural and remote communities.

Where does your passion for rural, regional and remote Australia come from?

Growing up in Fiji, a developing country, I witnessed first-hand the challenges that come with limited access to resources, infrastructure, and leadership opportunities especially in rural communities. I saw how strong, values-based leadership could transform lives, lift families out of hardship, and create lasting change at the grassroots level. That early exposure shaped my belief that real progress starts when people are empowered to lead within their own communities.

Since moving to Australia, I’ve seen similar struggles in rural and remote areas here, and it reignited my passion to contribute. Working with the ARLF gives me a meaningful way to support leadership development that’s community-led and place-based, something I deeply value because I’ve lived through the difference it can make.

What’s your favourite memory or most memorable moment in rural, regional and remote Australia?

One of my favorite memories is standing on a quiet backroad near Wagga Wagga at sunset. Golden light spilling over dry paddocks, the smell of eucalyptus in the warm air, and the only sounds were insects buzzing and laughter from my friends. In that stillness, I felt completely connected to the land, to the moment, and to the quiet strength of rural Australia. It reminded me of the villages in Fiji where I grew up …. simple, grounded, and full of heart.

Now, what do you get up to when you’re not at work? What’s your favourite past time?

When I’m not at work, I love getting lost in creative projects. I’m a very hands-on person, so anything that involves painting, sewing, or crafting is my happy place. Whether it’s making something from scratch, upcycling old fabrics, or experimenting with new art styles, I find it really fulfilling. It’s my way of unwinding, expressing myself, and adding a bit of color and character to everyday life.

What’s your professional background?

Prior to joining the ARLF, I worked as a Financial Accountant at Retinue Accounting in Sydney, where I supported a range of small businesses with their compliance and financial reporting. Before moving to Australia, I held various accounting roles in Fiji, including Financial Reporting Accountant at BSP Life and Senior Accountant at BDO. My background spans both corporate and professional services, and I’m currently pursuing my CPA to deepen my expertise. I bring with me a strong foundation in financial analysis, reporting, and a passion for purpose-driven work.

Three things you love about working at the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation?

I love working at the ARLF because the work is deeply meaningful—we’re making a real difference in rural and regional communities. The team is incredibly supportive and passionate, which makes it a great place to collaborate and grow. I also enjoy the variety of programs we work on; no two days are the same, and it’s rewarding to see the impact of what we do.
