What’s making news in the Alumni Network: August 2024

Hello to our ARLF alumni network! By now, you should have seen the chance to apply for the Telstra Regional Council. We’ve also spread the word to other regional networks. But, heads up—the application deadline is next Monday, 5 August.

If you’re interested, make sure to get your EOI in soon. Applications can be submitted here.

If you missed the memo and need more info, shoot me an email at julias@rural-leaders.org.au.

Mighty Networks – alumni connection platform. Eager beavers sought…

We’re busy refining Mighty Networks, our online social connection platform, making it easier and more user-friendly. Next month, we’ll start inviting the broader ARLF alumni community to join. But, if you’re keen to get a sneak peek and give us some feedback, reach out to me at julias@rural-leaders.org.au.

As we shift to Mighty Networks, we’ll phase out the alumni portal. So, let’s make this transition smooth and exciting together!

Darwin roundtable breakfast – alumni gathering

Big thanks to the Darwin-based alumni and special guests who joined the breakfast roundtable with Matt and Philippa. Your input was invaluable as we work closely with our NT networks to understand the leadership needs and opportunities in the territory.

Upcoming alumni gatherings

We’re planning gatherings in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, and Bendigo before the year ends. I’m coordinating with some local alumni and staff to finalise dates and locations. Stay tuned for more details!

Learning resources

Just a quick reminder about the two webinars we held in June under the Leading Australian Resilient Communities (LARC) program. Both are recorded and available for you to watch.

Penny Elsley, founder of the Welcome Dinner Project, discussed how to reach ‘Beyond the Usual Suspects: Engaging Community and Volunteers’.

Dr. Polly McGee shared their knowledge on ‘Trauma-informed leadership’. Dr. McGee (they/them) is a trauma-trained neuroleadership designer and facilitator, psychotherapist, author, and speaker.

Both webinars are just over an hour long and can be accessed through the provided links. It’s an easy and accessible way to continue fostering your leadership development.

Alumni opportunities

ABC Heywire is a storytelling competition for remote, rural, and regional youth aged 16-22. Winners get to work with ABC Producers to share their story on a national platform and enjoy an all-expenses-paid trip to the Heywire Regional Youth Innovation Summit in Canberra in 2025. Applications close Sunday, 1 September , 2024.

That’s all for now! If you have any questions or need more info, feel free to reach out. Let’s keep building and connecting!

Our newest ARLP C31 cohort during the launch of their program. We look forward to welcoming them into the alumni community.
